Learning Journey empowers students through personalized, high-quality education. With a team of expert tutors, we provide tailored support to help learners excel academically and develop a lifelong love for learning.

We were also founded, in part, to serve students with disabilities including, but not limited to, students with learning disabilities, executive functioning challenges (such as ADHD), intellectual challenges, speech and language disabilities, and students on the autism spectrum.

Where we work

We serve the New York metro area, including the five boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Staten Island), Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk counties), Northern New Jersey (Bergen, Essex, Union, and Hudson counties), and Westchester.

If you are outside the New York metro area, we may be still be able to help your student remotely.

Jeremy Cohen, Co-founder, President

Jeremy Cohen

Jeremy, a Long Island native, embarked on his professional journey with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from NYU's Stern School of Business, followed by a successful career in finance at Morgan Stanley. Driven by a passion for education, Jeremy transitioned to the field of teaching after earning a master's degree in secondary education from Hofstra University. His experience as a math educator at a Long Island high school and as a proficient math tutor for students of various ages highlighted the importance of personalized, engaging, and effective teaching methods. In 2010, Jeremy joined Private Prep, an esteemed education company, where he rose to the position of CFO over four years, making significant contributions to the company's success. Recognizing the need for tailored elementary education services, Jeremy founded Learning Journey Services to fulfill his vision of providing exceptional tutoring programs for PreK through 5th-grade students.

Jeremy's vision for Learning Journey Services combines his business acumen with his passion for education. He believes in creating a nurturing and innovative learning environment where young students not only excel academically but also develop a genuine love for learning. His approach emphasizes personalized tutoring programs, interactive resources, and collaborative partnerships with students, parents, and educators.

Nina Oliva, Director of Education

Nina Oliva

As the Director of Education, Nina brings over ten years of education experience to our tutoring company. She's dedicated to providing personalized support to every student, drawing from her background as a Special Education teacher in the New York City Department of Education. During this tenure, Nina developed a deep understanding of instructional strategies and interventions to support students with varying abilities and challenges. With a Dual Masters in Special Education and Literacy, Nina is committed to evidence-based practices. She collaborates closely with tutors to create tailored learning plans, believing in the power of individualized instruction. Nina is passionate about building support networks with families and educators and stays active in the education community to stay updated on the latest trends and research. She is deeply invested in making a difference in the lives of students and is excited to continue serving as a leader in the field of education.

Open Positions

Elementary Special Education Tutor

Learning Journey is seeking highly qualified elementary tutors proficient in remedial reading and math techniques for the academic year ahead. Tutors are expected to find creative ways to engage students in learning activities, demonstrate patience and reliability, and have a background in special education.

All tutors can set their own availability hours and can work as many or as few hours as desired.

Experience with Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or other special education techniques are required.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze an evaluation report to identify student’s areas for potential growth and enrichment.
  • Deliver interventions effectively utilizing student’s unique learning preferences
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and parents
  • Uphold progress monitoring standards
